Love or Fear

The best course I took in college was “An Introduction to Philosophy”. I knew then I was not off kilter although some folks have that opinion of me already.

The second best had to be “Argumentation and Debate”. I’ve stated elsewhere that I had to debate the pros AND the cons of gun control. Winning both sides of the argument showed me it is possible to bring people to your point of view if you are persuasive.

Which brings me to the conclusion that liberals exist in a different universe. I am reminded of Barack Obama’s jihadist speech when he said, “If you will unclench your fist..yada,yada,yada.” Kind of reminded me of the kid that would give up his lunch money even before he was threatened with an ass kicking.

Liberals would rather be loved than feared. Love cannot buy security. Only fear of getting your ass whipped serves as a deterrent. But, as Machiavelli eloquently states, care must be taken to insure that fear does not turn into hatred. Because then all bets are off.

Most folks dismiss “the Prince” as a guide book for tyrants. It’s true that Hitler and Stalin and other lesser tyrants used “The Prince” as a blueprint to murder and enslave. I believe Ronald Reagan unknowingly used “The Prince” in formulating his Star Wars missile defense to put the Russians on notice that he was no Jimmy Carter.

Fear can work at many levels. Personally, I’d rather be feared than loved.

So. You say You’re a Christian

Then why are you late Sunday after Sunday, after Sunday, after Sunday? And, why are you so anxious to leave, before the mass/service is over.

If you love god/Jesus as you profess, show some respect. Get to church on time and stay till it’s all over.

And, what about the way you dress? Looks more like you are going to a ball game or on a picnic. And your kids; are your boys gangta wannabes? You’re daughters; are they practicing to be street walkers later in life?

Again, show some respect. I don’t profess to be a Christian but I do go through all the motions out of respect for my wife. I don’t believe it’s helping me any but it does make my wife happy me going to mass with her.

Who knows? Maybe there is a hereafter. Maybe I’m accumulating brownie points and just don’t know it.

And, I don’t dress as if I’m going some other event.

REAL Hope, NOT Hype

Herman Cain is the real disciple of hope. From humble beginnings, thru dedication and hard work, he rose to become the CEO of Godfather Pizza.

Herman has taken a beating in the media the last few days. One reason is he does NOT fit the media’s perception of a black presidential candidate. They were falling all over Obama because he was black and NOT a conservative.

So, they look for any chinks in his armor and go on the attack. Will he survive their scrutiny? Time will tell.

In the mean time, you can keep the change, I’ll raise Cain.

Fair and Equal

I can’t remember who wrote that; probably Will Durant, but I can’t be sure.

When daughter #2 was a pre-teen, she was whining about something not being fair. I told her, “Get used to it, kid. Life never is and never was fair.”

To which my wife responded, “That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard. You’re hurting your daughter’s self esteem.”

Again I replied, “If life was fair there would be no small gave markers in the cemetery. These poor children never got a chance to grow up.”

I’m glad my daughter listened to her dad and not her mom. I’ve always preached that there will always be someone smarter, stronger and better than you. If you’ve done your best and you know it really was your best, then pick yourself up and go on.

There are way too many people in America unhappy because of this self esteem thing. I heard Dr. Laura comment once that real self esteem comes from doing something really well. And no one can take that away from you.

60 Is the New 40

The person who first coined this saying must have been a guy on Viagra or a woman with$40,000 tits. By that logic, 70 is the new 50. I am here to tell you, that is a load of caca.

I read a blog recently that stated the reason old people have problem with their teeth is that man was not supposed to live too much past 40. I mean this guy was really going way back.

I have two brothers in law that have passed away and two that aren’t in that great a shape. My brother died in his mid-sixties.

So, anyone that makes it to 70 and still has his mental capacities and is not wheel chair bound is one lucky son of a gun. And if his kids are not an embarrassment, then he is doubly lucky.

I would not call such a person fortunate yet because we don’t know how his life will end. Something terrible could leave him out in the street or without a family. He could have a long, agonizing death thrown in for good measure.

If he dies a quick death surrounded by his family in his own home, then he is fortunate in deed.

Now, if someone makes it to 80, he is REALLY lucky. I am so envious of Betty White and Earnest Borgnine still going strong at 90.

Who in the hell want to live forever?

Bullying

Fear is a terrible burden to bear. Fear is the enemy of liberty and freedom.

It pisses me to hear parents go, “Boo hoo, my baby is being bullied or committed suicide because he/she was bullied.”What this country badly needs is for parents to buck up and teach their kids how to open a can of whoop ass. Most bullies are chicken shits who need to get their asses kicked.

Everybody wants to get into the act decrying violence. Cities and states want to pass anti-bullying ordinances or legislation. I believe my idea is better and it won’t cost near as much as enacting new legislation.

If you believe otherwise, why don’t you just put a target on your kid? Only idiots believe in antisocial behavior counseling.

Ethnicity

There are a lot of unhappy people in America. Some folks wear their ethnicity on their sleeves. Every word or expression must pass an ethnic examination or else it’s a racist remark. They see racists where none exist.

Frankly, life is too short to put every word or gesture through a litmus test. Some people are plain dumb or stupid and if you stop and listen, you will soon grow old and invite all kinds of health and mental issues.

My son in law’s father was stabbed by some black guys 50 years ago. He is still prejudiced against black people.

There are more decent, hard working black Americans than thugs. It’s just that the thugs and shiftless get all the media attention.

So, my issue is, you don’t know if a person is having a really bad day or he’s carrying a heavy burden from long ago. Make like the duck and just let it roll off. It’s not worth the hassle.

Gays in America

This is neither an antigay rant nor a pro-gay rave. It’s just my observations on the whole hysteria surrounding gays in America.

For sure, homosexuals have been with us since time immemorial. If we are to believe the bible, god destroyed Sodom and Gomorra because of some guys lusted for Lot’s male visitors. So, because of some uptight Jews, homosexuality became an abomination before the lord.

A few weeks ago Dr. Charles Stanley was commenting on individuals “practicing the homosexual lifestyle”. Hate to disappoint the good doctor, but, could it be that nature played a cruel joke on some folks? I don’t believe these good people purposefully elected to be ridiculed and be made objects of hatred and violence.

Contrary to what evangelical Christians believe, you can no more pray away the gay that a black person can pray away being black.

I am fully convinced that all matter of disdain is really a form of self loathing or self reassuring and any prejudice against gays is proof that “I’m not one of them”.

As a youngster, I used to listen to Billy James Hargis, a big anti-communist. I was young and was taught by my parents to fear “godless communism”. As it turns out, I found out many years later that good old Billy James was a child molester.

Could it be that all anti-gays are really afraid that if they took it up the ass, they might enjoy it? I am a 100%, red blooded heterosexual. I neither fear nor hate homosexuals. And shame on you if you use the bible to justify your prejudices.

“Good Christians” have used the bible to keep blacks segregated and invade the Holy Land. Does anyone remember the Crusades? Oh, yeah. Your church wasn’t involved in that. So, please don’t use god for your prejudices; be honest, mostly with yourself, because  we're not buying.

Parenting

I’ve come to the conclusion that you can’t know if you were a good parent or not until you child is 30. Granted, some parents are fortunate to have model kids. But kids being kids sometimes make stupid mistakes. That’s why I said you have to wait until they are 30.

If a child reaches 30 and he’s still acting like a teenager there is nothing you can do but let him go and let reality bite him in the ass. If you keep coddling him, reality will bit him when he’s 50 or later after you are gone. Who will coddle him then?

This is where my spouse and I part company. I’m heartless bastard that doesn’t care about his children and yada, yada , yada. Maybe it’s my Pentecostal upbringing but the Jews have a custom where they rent their garments as a showing of their parental disapproval. There comes a time when tough love should kick in. Coddling parents are crippling their children by constantly rescuing them.

I am blessed to have two daughters that are their Dad’s pride and joy. The majority of this success goes to my wife.

I have seen kids that are a great success in life in spite of their parents. They are the exception not the rule. I have also seen kids that are a wreck and will continue to be wrecks because parents want to be their kid’s best friend instead of being a parent.

Just remember; you have 30 years to get it right.

Die while you’re still tasty

I was with my number one liberal democrat buddy and somehow our conversation steered towards animal lovers and how they had successfully gotten the city of Fort Worth to close down the horse slaughter plants. He commented that it was too expensive for horse owners to kill their horses and bury them and selling them wasn’t much better. What’s a horse owner to do if he can no longer afford the feed? Turn them loose and let the city take them. He further commented that animal lovers always talk about how much they hate to see animals suffer.

I then questioned whether they ate hamburgers, chicken or bacon. His response was that the majority was vegetarian. I thought, “Well, they are missing zinc and other nutrients that a vegetarian diet may be lacking and how they may be headed to an early death.”

To which my buddy’s reply was, “Yes, die while you’re still tasty.”

Social inSecurity

My youngest daughter who will be turning 30 in a few weeks received a letter from the Social Security Administration informing her that they project she will receive $1, 700+ in forty years. Now, I don’t know how many young people really believe they will actually see a check from Social Security.

Hell, I don’t know if I will continue seeing a check in the unforeseeable future. I may be reduced to hunting dogs and cats and an occasional rat.

Anyhow, here’s my advice for young people. You better get your spending under control and start saving for old age. Don’t kid yourselves; you will grow old. Ask yourself, “Do I really need (fill in the bank)?” We live in an age of instant gratification where everyone is vying for your money.

A few years ago there was a bumper sticker that stated, “He who dies with the most toys wins.” That was one stupid statement; yet, many bought into this piece of bull caca. Hell, dead is dead, toys or no toys.

Saving for your old age may not be as sexy as the latest iphone but neither is having to eat rats or dogs or cats.

Gringos, Bolillos and Americanos

Seems some “conservatives” find the term “gringo” offensive and racist. It doesn’t even come close to the “N” word. I’ve heard two different versions of how the word originated. I’ll let you Google it if you are really interested.

Bolillos (pronounced bo-lee-os) are a small bread loaf sold in Mexican grocery stores. A bolillo is the Mexican version of the hoagie. I don’t know what the caloric data is on the bolillo but it sure makes for a good sandwich.

Both bolillos and gringo have entered the vernacular in Spanish when referring to white people. I guess they had fewer syllables than Americano.

If gringo was such a derogatory term I would not refer to my bi-racial grand kids as “my gringitos”.

Herman Cain For President

Seems like the Herman Cain candidacy is gaining traction. If anyone deserves it more, it’s Herman.

Here’s why I believe Herman Cain is the best candidate to be president. He actually knows what it takes to create jobs. He’s had his hands in the mix.

There’s no talk about what he would do to create jobs. He has done it. End of story. It must drive the liberal media batty for anyone daring to knock off the “anointed one”. Especially a conservative black man. They can’t believe such an animal even exists.

Herman has been catching flak because of his statement that 70% of blacks are brain washed into believing the Democratic Party has their best interests. All I can say is “Add 70% of Mexicans/Latinos/ Hispanics into the mix”.

I am amazed to the number of people with closed minds. As previously stated, it doesn’t matter how many letters a person has after their name, they are no smarter than the unwashed masses.

I hope Herman keeps gaining momentum.

Sarah Palin and Barack Obama

Nothing seems to arouse passions like the mention of Sarah Palin or Barack Obama. They either love them or hate them. There seems to be no middle ground.

Maybe I’m just one of those individuals that doesn’t stand for anything. I wouldn’t vote for either one of them. I’m not an idol worshipper which seems to be what the Palin Obama crowd is.

Allow me to explain. I took a debating class in college and I elected one of the most explosive issues: gun control. Let me tell you, I Love Guns.

Anyhow, each debating team was made up of three individuals. One hardly showed up and the other was pro-guns is all the way. When it came time to debate pro gun control issue, he bailed out. To me it was just a grade. So, I singlehandedly had to debate the merits of gun control. We won both sides of the debate.

What I learned is that you don’t have to believe something as long as whomever you are trying to persuade believes in it.

Which brings me back to Palin Obama. Way too many folks are persuaded by bull shit.

This Is America

I got “Mao’s Last Dancer” from Netflix on recommendation from daughter number one. This is a great story even if you don’t like ballet.

Chinese dancer Li Cunxi is an exchange student to the Houston Ballet. He is in for cultural shock. At a disco, one of the ballet company makes a statment that he doesn’t like the President (Ronald Reagan). Li immediately becomes apprehensive that a government agent might over hear him but is told, “This is America”.

It’s an America we are fast losing where freedom of speech means you can’t say anything I may find offensive. The movie clearly shows two different worlds. Those that believe in an egalitarian state will be in for a shock if only they will open their eyes and minds.

Freedom is living in peace and without fear. There can be no fair and equal, but that’s for another post.

Racism, Prejudice and Stereotyping

It seems we are losing the freedom to speak freely. If someone speaks ill of President Obama, he’s labeled a “racist”. If someone is against illegal immigration, he’s a racist. If someone is against same sex marriage, he’s a homophobe.

What short memories we have. Lynching was racist. Burning colored town was racist. Police beating up blacks and using fire hoses on them was racist. Sending six million Jews to the gas chamber was racist.

I am getting through? Racism is much more than words. Racism is direct action against someone or a group.

Prejudice? Prejudice can sometimes be a good thing. Prejudice comes from pre judge. Prejudging someone or some situation may save your live. If I’m gassing up and I see some skinheads talking and laughing and looking at me, I better get the hell out of there. That’s not being racist to white people, that’s having some common sense.

Stereotyping is having a blanket opinion about a group of people. Southerners eat grits, black folks eat chicken and watermelon and Mexicans eat tacos.

So, next time you hear someone call someone a racist, ask them to clarify things for you. The world is full of dumb asses. We don’t need one more.

Confused Conservatives

I’ve been listening to conservative radio for quite a while now. Some hosts are real whackos. Most are reasonable people 60-70% of the time.

So, what prompted today’s post? Seems a local talk host was in a huff because Hank Williams, Jr. was singing something in Spanish during Monday Night Football.

Let me see. Aren’t they the guys all for the “Free Market” and letting the “Free Market” decide? Seems to me the “Free Market” wants some of those Mexican dollars.

Isn’t the “Free Market” is saying, “Hey, amigo, we want some of your dinero.”?

Poor conservatives. They are so confused they can’t remember what they are for.

I Am an American

I am not a Mexican-American or a Latino-American or an Hispanic-American. I am an American whose ancestors were run out of the country by revolution. I thank god for the courage and hope my ancestors had that their progeny would someday reap the rewards this great country freely offers us all.

This is not an indictment on the Mexican people but on their corrupt government which is the cause of so much misery for so many. It seems everyone down there has his hand out: from the cop on the street to the presidency itself.

I just wish all those millions demonstrating in OUR streets would return to THEIR native country and demonstrate there. But No; they might get shot. It’s much easier to make demands in the land where you are an uninvited guest knowing that a bunch of no nothing lunatics will come out and root for you.

It seems to me that the more letters a person has after his/her name the dumber they are.

I never got quite close enough to get my BA. When I quit attending college, I determined that I would not be another college dropout. So, I began to self educate myself. History is one subject that has always fascinated me.

So, in my quest for knowledge I found out that no one was immune from being discriminated against. It didn’t matter if you were Irish, German, Italian, Jewish, Catholic, Pole, Chinese, etc, etc, etc.

So, instead of felling sorry for your sorry ass, stop whining, dig in and keep going. And, don’t look back.
